You Deserve to Be There

From Isolation to Celebration – One Trip at a Time.

Chrysalis Spectrum Foundation Timeline
A New Vision

After years of championing job creation for aging adults with disabilities, Chrysalis Spectrum Foundation is proudly evolving to meet the deeper needs revealed by our community data: a vibrant social life is just as vital as employment. Families and individuals consistently shared that isolation—not unemployment—is the greatest barrier to fulfillment. They crave access to concerts, conventions, camps, and social outings, but face overwhelming costs for tickets, travel, lodging, and a trusted companion. Starting in 2026, we’re redirecting 100% of our focus to financially empowering Houston-area residents with visible or invisible disabilities to say yes to life’s joy. A portion of every donation will also fuel Disability Comic Con, our flagship inclusive pop culture event, ensuring fandom is for everyone.

A NEW MISSION

Empowering Houstonians with disabilities to live fully through funded access to social, cultural, and recreational experiences.

What We Do

The Questions That Changed Us

ADL Data.jpg

In 2024, we asked the families and individuals who attend our events a simple, honest question:

As you or your child ages with a disability, what worries you more: finding a job… or being stuck at home with no social life?”

The answer came back loud, clear, and unanimous: Social isolation. The fear of a life spent only at home. That single response became our turning point. The data below shows that transportation is also a significant concern that impacts the quality of life. Your donations will help us bridge the gap in both needs from collected data by participants impacted by a visible or invisible disability.

HISTORY

Since 2013, Dr. Alisa Elliot—co-founder of Chrysalis Spectrum LLC, Positive People with Positive Attitudes, and Disability Comic Con—has rallied incredible volunteers from East Texas to Greater Houston to host inclusive gatherings. Community events, volunteerism, educational workshops, and our annual Disability Comic Con were all built for one purpose: to create spaces where people with visible and invisible disabilities could connect, laugh, learn, and simply belong.

Dr. Elliot originally launched Chrysalis Spectrum Foundation with a mission to create meaningful administrative job opportunities for adults with disabilities. While the intention was good, the reality proved challenging—and, honestly, not as fulfilling as the joy we saw at every event.

FUTURE

In 2025 we listened to the data, to the stories, and to our hearts. We rebranded and rebuilt the Foundation around what has always mattered most to our community: the chance to have fun, make memories, and afford the experiences that bring joy, friendship, and a true sense of belonging.

Today, Chrysalis Spectrum Foundation exists to remove the financial and logistical barriers that keep Houston-area individuals with disabilities from the concerts, conventions, camps, sporting events, and social outings they dream about.

Every donation now directly funds:

  • Event tickets

  • Accessible travel & lodging

  • Trusted travel companions

  • And helps grow Disability Comic Con—an annual celebration where fandom is truly for everyone

Because no one should have to choose between paying the bills and living a full, connected life.

No Dream Event Left Behind. That’s our promise—and we can’t wait to keep it, one funded adventure at a time.
