How to Find a Good Caregiver for your Loved One

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

Please discuss with your family member you are going to get a caregiver for them even if they don’t understand what you are doing, they need to be a part of the conversation. Before you start the interviewing process, write down some questions you can ask the person you are hiring. Please ask your family member if they have any questions or requests for the person you are hiring. The two main requests they may have; someone who is calm and someone who will listen to them. I think you should pick three caregivers to interview.

I was in the hospital three years ago and I met a lady who did my blood pressure. My mom and I started talking to her, she seemed really calm and not abrupt at all. Laquitha started talking about her family, they were always doing activities. My mom asked her if she would like to take care of me someday. She said yes and wrote down her phone number. Two years ago, my mom called Laquitha and she said she was looking for someone to take care of me and she asked her if she wanted to do it. She said yes! Laquitha came and worked for us. She is wonderful, she does what I ask and she doesn’t ask any questions.

Please find someone who is calm, your family member will respond better.
